Canadian Tennis Stars Victoria Mboko & Eugenie Bouchard Are The Newest Mejuri Ambassadors
New year, new gig for Canadian athletes Victoria Mboko and Eugenie Bouchard. The tennis pros are among the newest ambassadors for Mejuri Play, the jewellery brand’s platform that celebrates the intersection of fashion, sports, self-expression—and the pieces that move with them.
“Mejuri is a Canadian, women-owned brand, which was important to me,” Mboko told ELLE Canada over email. “Their pieces feel youthful, modern and fun, but are still timeless. I love that Mejuri is all about everyday jewellery you can actually live and move in, which really aligns with my lifestyle as an athlete. I enjoy accessorising when I am competing, and I feel that the pieces I wear can bring out my personality and how I feel both on and off the court.”
Both Mboko and Bouchard are natural fits for Mejuri Play, which launched last year with a collaboration with U.S. tennis player Emma Navarro. Mboko is a 19-year-old rising star who made waves in her sport last year when she jumped to the Top 20 in world rankings after starting the year at 333. Her season included winning the National Bank Open in Montreal. Bouchard is a long-time favourite in the sport, becoming the first Canadian to reach a Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in 2014. She retired from professional tennis last year and now plays pro pickleball.
“Supporting women athletes feels like a natural extension of what Mejuri has always stood for—women celebrating themselves, their way. Women in sports are still underrepresented, even though they’re shaping culture in major ways, and we want to help change that,” Jacob Jordan, Mejuri’s chief brand officer, said. “Mejuri Play brings that support to life by putting female athletes in the spotlight and creating a space where sport, style and culture overlap. It’s not just about performance—it’s about self-expression and bringing your own style to how you compete, live and play.”
Of course, Mboko and Bouchard can be seen wearing the new pieces in campaign images—while also showing off their own personal styles. For Mboko, that means earrings (“I honestly feel like something is missing if I don’t have earrings on—I even sleep in them; they just make me feel like myself.”) and stacking her favourite accessories. “I’ve collected so many pieces over time that I genuinely love, and I’m always mixing-and-matching depending on how I’m feeling,” she said. “My on-court and off-court style are actually pretty similar—I gravitate toward dainty, timeless pieces. Off the court, I’ll usually add more, like rings or a watch, but my earrings and bracelets pretty much stay the same no matter what.”
For Bouchard—who’s go-to jewellery item is, fittingly, a tennis bracelet because she says the style goes with every outfit—accessorizing is how she brings herself to the court. “Wearing jewellery is such a fun way to show personality when I play,” she said. “When I am on the court, I feel like a tomboy, so it’s important for me to feel girly as well, even though I’m sweating and doing a physically demanding job. Off court, I let the girl side out even more and really accessorize.”
